I ran a mile today

In 6:21 on the treadmill. :) I'm pretty happy. Or was it 6:31?? Can't remember now, but I do know I felt my butt hurt real bad. Havn't had that feeling since college. (no comments from the peanut gallery either.)

    Good run! Give me a 6. Do I hear a 6? I got 7 I got 6 and a half, can I have a 6?

  3. Nathan, St. George just sent out an e-mail saying don't even think about asking them to defer an entry until next year. Are you sure you don't want to try it this year? You still have 4 1/2 weeks. That should be plenty of time for a decathalon champion.

  4. That's an incredible time, Nathan. Karen and I went to the track today. I ran one fast and furious lap. It took me 1:45. After a slow jog I ran two fast and furious laps. That took 3:58. You can do the math, but a 6:30 mile is way beyond my ability. I could never beat 7 minutes, even in high school.

  5. Thanks for all the nice words. Sorry Mark, I did get the email, and still can't figure out a way to get through that 26.2 miles. I highly doubt it is possible. I will think about it though. I originally wanted to only run two marathons...one to qualify for Boston and then Boston. Funny how goals change. I still don't know if I can ever qualify for Boston. I may have some old speed in me, but speed and distance just havn't come together for me. I'm far from giving up, but surprised at how long it takes to get just a little better. Then some weird injury pops up...

  6. Nathan, good job on the 6:31 mile. That beat my time going down hill today at the end of 8 miles by 12 seconds. And you were on a treadmill! I want to do a 12 minute two mile for my army fitness test but that will be after St George. I will really miss you if you don't do St George.

  7. Stephen, you can do a 6 minute mile! Heck, you taught me how to do a 6 minute mile. Do a little more 1/4 mile training like run a lap in 1:45 then rest for 2-3 minutes until you can do ten of them in a row with 2-3 minutes rest in between. You will soon be running faster. In a month you could do a 6. You will know you are ready when you can do at least four in a row (with rests) slightly under 90 seconds. This is tough training but you progress very fast with it.
